The Great Genealogical Search

Looking for a Christmas gift? The Eurasian Association is proud to announce the availability of a new book called The Great Genealogical Search. Written by Eurasians, for Eurasians, this book, presented in the form of a case study, brings you through the different methods of research that you should know to discover your family history.

Amazingly, the book details the real life experience of the Shepherdson family in Singapore, recently featured on CNN.com (http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/11/09/dna.families/). Follow them on their 20-year quest through church records, the Internet and DNA tests in the tradition of a Dan Brown novel!

To learn all these and more, together with a complete resource guide, place your order for The Great Genealogical Search from the EA and receive a 10% off the retail price of S$24.90 (Valid till Dec 31st 2009). For more information or to order a copy, please contact Jacqueline Peeris @ 6447 1578 or email Jacqueline@eurasians.org.

Everyman’s Hero, written by the late Rex Shelley, will be officially launched by His Excellency Presidency SR Nathan on Monday 18 January 2010.

The biography sheds light on the life and times of famed gynecologist and nationalist Dr Charles Paglar (1894-1954). Hailed as a benefactor by many and blamed by some for leading members of the Eurasian community to Bahau in Negri Sembilan, Malaysia, during the Japanese Occupation, he remains an enigmatic figure in the long gaze of history.

The NewEurasian is a free quarterly magazine that has a readership of approximately 8000, including Members of Parliament, CEOs and professionals both Eurasian and non-Eurasian. To advertise your goods and services with us, please contact eber.christian@gmail.com. Attractive rates and discounts are available for members.

MOE Bridging Programme 2009

The MOE Bridging Programme 2009 was conducted over 4 weeks, from 24 Nov to 18 Dec. There were 15 host schools evenly spread out in different areas of Singapore for the convenience of the students. This year, the SHGs expanded the Bridging Programme to reach out to more pre-school children from lower-income families who have not attended pre-school education or not being ready for Primary education with the necessary school readiness skills. Based on the recommendations from the Kindergartens, there were 277 students who participated in the programme, of which 3 were Eurasian students.

This December, join us in a special series of gaming sessions for seniors at the Programme Zone, Jurong Regional Library.
